The Kebbi State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the kidnapping of Augustine Madubiya, a 23-year-old final-year Economics student at the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi. The incident took place early on Tuesday morning when kidnappers stormed the Istijaba Villa, an off-campus hostel located in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by the police, the abduction occurred around 3 a.m., when the kidnappers forcibly took the student. Tragically, Malam Siddi Hussaini, a good Samaritan who was nearby tending to his cattle and attempted to intervene, was shot and killed by the assailants.

“The victim was fatally shot and was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor,” the statement said.

In response to the attack, the Divisional Police Officer in Kalgo quickly mobilized a team of officers to the scene. The police are following credible leads and have deployed a joint security team to comb the surrounding forests in search of the abducted student, with the goal of securing his safe release and apprehending the criminals involved.

The police have reassured the public of their unwavering commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice.
