Anambra State’s OCHA Brigade has shut down a dangerous, unauthorized disinfectant factory operating in Odume Obosi, Idemili North LGA, exposing a major public health threat.
In an early morning operation on Tuesday, operatives of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade raided and sealed an illicit chemical production facility located at 14 Chris Ugoezu Street. The site was reportedly churning out counterfeit antiseptics, soaps, and disinfectants using unlabelled chemicals and fake packaging.
Speaking during a press briefing in Onitsha on Wednesday, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, Celestine Anere, said the discovery followed a targeted clampdown on unauthorized businesses endangering public health.
“This factory had no regulatory approval. What we found was an unlicensed setup filled with harmful, unregistered substances—none approved by NAFDAC,” Anere said.
Thousands of adulterated products were confiscated, while suspects arrested are currently being interrogated. Others who fled are being tracked.
“This is a clear danger to citizens. We will continue these operations until Anambra is free from such hazardous practices,” Anere added.
Residents expressed surprise at the revelation, describing the factory as “silent and discreet.”
